General Product Safety Regulation

Risk Assessment and Product Safety Information

At Blood & Daisies, we create unique handmade products using a variety of materials. Each material is carefully selected and assessed for quality and safety. To comply with the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) (EU) 2023/988, we evaluate potential safety risks associated with the materials and their use in our products.

At Blood & Daisies, we want to ensure that all our products are used safely. Our products are not toys and are not suitable for children under the age of 3. Many of our handmade items include small parts, such as beads, that could be swallowed, posing a serious choking hazard. We strongly advise that products containing small components be used under adult supervision and stored out of reach of young children.

Materials We Use

Our products are crafted with:

  • Metals: Stainless steel, gold-plated stainless steel, copper, brass, aluminium, silver
  • Textiles: Wool, acrylic yarn, mohair, sheep's wool, and other yarns (e.g., cotton, linen, silk, hemp)
  • Beads: Glass beads, crystal beads, acrylic beads, wooden beads, (gem)stones
  • Natural and Reused Materials: Wood, and reused/reclaimed/second-hand materials of unknown origin.

Potential Risks and Mitigation Measures

Each material category undergoes a risk assessment to ensure customer safety:

  1. Metals:

    • Potential Risks: Allergic reactions to metals like copper or nickel (if present in alloys), tarnishing, and sharp edges.
    • Mitigation: Use of hypoallergenic materials like stainless steel, and thorough finishing processes to remove sharp edges.
  2. Textiles:

    • Potential Risks: Skin irritation from wool or mohair, especially for sensitive individuals.
    • Mitigation: Clearly labelling materials and providing care instructions to minimise irritation or damage during washing.
  3. Beads and Embellishments:

    • Potential Risks: Choking hazards for children and breakage of glass or crystal beads.
    • Mitigation: Ensuring secure attachment of beads and providing warnings for small parts unsuitable for young children.
  4. Natural and Reused Materials:

    • Potential Risks: Unknown origin materials may carry unknown risks.
    • Mitigation: Inspection and preparation of reused materials to remove contaminants and ensure safety.
